Description of the genus

Erect annual or perennial herbs, latex white. Roots fibrous. Leaves petiolate, blade herbaceous. Inflorescence umbelliform; corolla campanulate to salver-shaped, tube cylindric; lobes free at tips. Seeds flattened, oblong.

Worldwide: Over 100 species in Central and South America, one species naturalised in Australia.

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
