Description of the genus

Herbs, bulb pear-shaped or globose. Leaves few to several; lamina lanceolate-oblong, margins undulate, many-nerved. Inflorescence a raceme, densely many-flowered, pedicels short. Flowers purplish-red; perianth tubular, deciduous, limb 6-parted, lobes short. Fruit a capsule, dry membranous, obovate, sharply 3-angle-winged. Seeds black, 2 per locule.

Worldwide: 2 species in South Africa (Cape Province).
