Description of the genus

Shrubs or small trees. Leaves alternate or crowded, entire, ± sessile. Flowers borne in terminal clusters. Corolla with a long tube and short lobes, much exceeding the calyx. Stamens 5, attached at the same height on the corolla tube. Style often exserted. Capsule 3-valved, loculicidal.
