Description of the genus

Trees or large shrubs, deciduous. Leaves simple, alternate. Flowers 4-merous, white or pale pink in lateral umbel-like clusters; calyx narrowly obconic, completely adherent to the ovary; corolla broadly campanulate, 4-lobed. Ovary inferior. Fruit dry drupe, indehiscent, the oblong body conspicuously winged.

Worldwide: 4-5 species native to East Asia and eastern North America.

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
