Description of the genus

Erect or spreading shrubs. Leaves opposite in tufts, subsessile, foetid when crushed. Inflorescence axillary or terminal, 1- or few-flowered. Flowers white; calyx lobes persistent; corolla funnel-shaped, hairy inside; lobes 4-6, edges touching in bud. Fruit a subglobose drupe with 2 pits.

Worldwide: One or possibly 3 species native to eastern Asia.

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
