Description of the genus

Tall woody climbers. Leaves palmately trifoliate; leaflets ovate-elliptic, dentate, acuminate, coriaceous. Flowers in apparently axillary inflorescences. Petals 4, horned. Style very short, surmounted by the swollen 4-lobed stigma. Fruit a berry.

Worldwide: 8 species in primary rainforests of tropical and subtropical areas of Asia and Australia.

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
