Tree to 25 m tall, evergreen or semi-deciduous; leaflets sessile, opposite, 10-18 pairs; fruit irregularly cylindric, seeds 1-10 embedded in acid pulp.

Derivation of name: From Arabic: tamr (a date) and hindi (Indian)

Worldwide: 1 species in the Old World tropics

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
