Description of the genus

Trees or shrubs. Leaves alternate, entire. Flowers in terminal panicles, bisexual, 5-merous. Disk 0. Petals free, linear, glabrous. Stamens alternating with the petals. Fruit flattened and obliquely ellipsoid with a prominent lateral fleshy appendage.

Worldwide: 1 species in the Old World tropics
