Description of the genus

Trees or shrubs. Leaves imparipinnate; rhachis markedly winged abyssinica). Inflorescence racemose. Petals densely hairy. Fruit a woody capsule opening by 4-5 thick valves. Seeds with a conspicuous aril, both seed and aril often brightly coloured.

Worldwide: 5 species in southern tropical Africa and South Africa

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
