Subshrubs or shrubs, to 3.5 m tall, with stems and leaves stellate-hairy. Leaves petiolate; lamina ovate to suborbicular, entire or palmately 3-lobed with a nectary on the midrib beneath. Pedicels surmounted by 3 rounded nectaries. Epicalyx of 6-9 triangular to filiform inconspicuous bracteoles. Calyx broadly cup-shaped, with 5 teeth or lobes. Corolla is bright yellow with a dark red centre. Capsule 4-5-locular, dehiscent, woody. Seeds 8–12 per loculus, small (4–6 mm long), glabrous or with appressed short hairs. Derivation of name: for Miguel José de Azanza (1746-1826), Spanish military officer and later diplomat. Worldwide: 2 species occurring in tropical and subtropical Asia to Australia. Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon. |
