Description of the genus

Trees. Leaves large, palmately-lobed. Flowers all bisexual, in reduced axillary or terminal cymes. Bracts present and also 3 bracteoles forming an involucre beneath the calyx. Calyx 5-lobed. Petals present and large (c.3.5 × 2.5 cm), tomentose with a basal claw. Staminodes present (5) and conspicuous. Fruit of 5 winged carpels

Worldwide: 3 species in tropical Africa

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
