Description of the genus

Trees. Leaves alternate, crenate-dentate. Stipules 0. Flowers bisexual. Inflorescences axillary racemes. Sepals 5-6, valvate. Petals 0. Stamens in bundles alternating with the sepals. Ovary 1-locular. Styles 4-6. Fruit a dry capsule. Seeds with long cottony hairs.

Worldwide: 1 species in eastern tropical Africa and Madagascar

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
