Description:

Deciduous tree to 15 m. Bark deeply vertically ridged. Leaves resembling those of chestnuts, Castanea sp.; petiole 3-4 cm; lamina 11-15 × 3-5 cm, oblong, glossy green above and beneath, brown-pubescent beneath; marginal teeth with prominent bristles, 3-4 mm long. Acorn cup enclosing two-thirds of the nut, covered in spreading spine-like scales. |
