Description: Shrub or small tree to 4 m. Leaves lanceolate to elliptic. Inflorescences in fascicles from spurs near stem apex. Calyx cup-shaped. Corolla 2.5-4 cm, tubular, yellow, orange to red; lobea short. Fruit an ellipsoid to conical berry.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: gesnerioides: resembling the genus Gesneria which also possesses red tubular flowers.

Worldwide distribution: Colombia and Ecuador.
