Monoecious trees (in ours). Stipules 0. Leaves alternate, often crowded near the apex of the branches, imparipinnate. Inflorescences of paniculate, bracteate cymes. Flowers usually unisexual. Calyx lobes 4, free almost to base. Petals and stamens 4 (in ours). Disk annular or cushion-like, ± fleshy. Ovary superior, 4-locular, each loculus with 1 ovule. Fruit dry, 4-angled, when ripe composed of 4-8 triquetrous mericarps suspended from a central carpophore. Worldwide: 4 species in 2 genera in tropical and South Africa Zimbabwe: 1 genus and 1 taxon. |
