Annual or perennial robust herb. Stem erect, simple or branched at inflorescence, terete, 2-ridged. Leaves opposite, the basal ones wider than the cauline ones. Inflorescence terminal cymes. Flowers 3-merous; calyx unequal, lobes keeled; corolla tube cylindric. Ovary unilocular; ovules numerous. Fruit a capsule, bivalved. Worldwide: Five species in tropical Africa. Zimbabwe: 1 taxon. |
