Description of the genus

Herbs or small undershrubs, erect or suberect, glandular-pubescent. Leaves alternate, entire. Inflorescence solitary, axillary, pedicellate, often bi-bracteolate. Calyx 5-lobed, lobes narrowly lanceolate. Corolla 5-lobed; tube much longer than calyx, dilated above, narrow at base; lobes flat, spreading, subequal. Stamens 2; filaments filiform, inserted above base of corolla tube; anthers transverse, glabrous or hairy. Style filiform, subclavate. Ovary bilocular; ovules many. Fruit capsules ovoid or cylindric dehiscent, subacuminate, loculicidal and septicidal. Seeds small, numerous, ovoid or cylindric, striate, rugose or not.

Worldwide: Species 10, from south west Arica to Arabia and India.
