Description of the genus

Annual or perennial herbs, turning black on drying. Mabberley (1997, p.764) comments that the flowers may superficially resemble Caryophyllaceae.

Derivation of name: Named after Adam Zalusiansky von Zaluzian, 1558-1613, a physician and botanist of Prague.

Worldwide: 55 species, concentrated in South Africa and thinning out northwards.

Zimbabwe: 1 taxon.
