Suffrutex (in ours) with stems arising from a woody rhizome. Leaves opposite or alternate, mostly pinnatisect to dentate, rarely entire. Flowers solitary, axillary. Calyx 5-lobed, campanulate. Corolla 5-lobed, tubular; lobes spreading ± entire. Stamens 4, didynamous, inserted in tube of corolla; anthers 2-thecous, the thecae divergent, oblong and curved. Ovary 2-locular, flattened; ovules numerous. Fruit a flattened capsule. Seeds numerous. Worldwide: 5 species occurring in Africa and Socotra Zimbabwe: 1 taxon. |
