Description of the genus

Shrub or small tree, the leaves, young shoots and inflorescences characteristically covered with dense velvety tomentum. Stipules connate with a linear apex. Leaves opposite (in ours), markedly discolorous. Flowers in subsessile axillary cymes. Calyx lobes 5. Corolla yellow to green, tube cylindric, lobes reflexed. Anthers ± exserted. Ovary 4-5(-6)-locular. Stigmatic club 4-5-lobed. Fruit ± spherical with 3-5 pyrenes.

Worldwide: c. 20 species in tropical Africa

Zimbabwe: 1 taxon.
