Suffrutex (in ours) arising from a woody rootstock. Stipules long-caudate. Leaves usually opposite, sometimes in whorls of 3. Flowers in cymes. Calyx: tube campanulate; limb-tube very reduced; lobes 5, ± leaf-like. Corolla bright orange or orange-yellow, rusty-tomentose outside; tube 17 - 25 mm, cylindric, ± curved, greatly exceeding the reflexed lobes, each of which bears an appendage. Ovary 4-5-locular; ovule 1 per loculus, pendulous. Pollen-presenter large, lobed at apex. Fruit crowned with calyx lobes, with up to 5 pyrenes. Worldwide: 5 species in tropical Africa Zimbabwe: 1 taxon. |
