Description of the genus
Herbs (annual in ours) or subshrubs. Leaves alternate, simple and serrate (in ours). Heads are glomerules (i.e. heads of heads); the constituent capitula with 2 filiform female florets and several bisexual disc florets. Receptacle with scales. Pappus 0 or (in ours) a ring of basally connected hairs. Worldwide: 11 species in Africa, Madagascar and E Asia Zimbabwe: 1 taxon. |
