Description of the genus

Herbs or small shrubs. Leaves alternate. Capitula discoid, usually solitary and pedunculate or corymbose, homogamous with bisexual, fertile disk florets. Receptacular scales 0. Phyllaries 4-seriate, usually ovate; margin membranous. Pappus of 1 lateral, broad, membranous scale, or a membranous cup or a toothed crown or 0.

Derivation of name: after Hendrik Christian Pentz, 1738–1803, Swedish plant collector.

Worldwide: 23 species, mostly in southern Africa; 2 in North Africa (Morocco and Algeria)

Zimbabwe: 1 taxon.
