Description of the genus

Climbers. Leaves simple, cordate, 5-7-palmately veined, without false stipules at the base of the petiole; the petiole thickened at its base, often remaining after leaf fall. Capitula discoid, heterogamous; outer florets female, inner bisexual. Achenes cylindric, 8-10-ribbed; pappus in 1-3 rows with many bristles.

Worldwide: c. 15 species in tropical Africa

Zimbabwe: 1 taxon.
