Description of the genus

Shrubs, undershrubs or herbs. Leaves alternate, sometimes radical. Capitula heterogamous with yellow marginal female florets and bisexual or sterile disk florets. Phyllaries in 1 series. Receptacle convex, without scales. Style with appendage. Pappus of scabrid bristles.
