Description of the genus

Shrubs or trees. Leaves in whorls of 3-4, entire or serrate. Inflorescences of terminal or axillary racemes. Flowers small, bisexual, ± actinomorphic. Ovary sessile; ovules 2. Fruit a ± spherical follicle containing 1 indehiscent nut.

Derivation of name: Named after John Macadam, MD, 1827-1865, secretary of the Philosophical Institute, Victoria, Australia

Worldwide: 12 species in E Malesia and Australia

Zimbabwe: 1 taxon.
