Description of the genus

Hemiparasitic shrubs with secondary haustoria present on extensive surface runners. Flowers in axillary or terminal umbels, 5-merous; bract saucer-shaped with a small limb. Corolla slightly S-shaped, elongate, with marked folds on the inner surfaces of the interlocking but free lower part of the petals. Berry red.

Worldwide: 12 species extending from the Middle East, southwards down the eastern side of Africa to Angola and South Africa

Zimbabwe: 1 taxon.
