Description of the genus
Trees. Flowers bisexual, in fascicles. Calyx lobes broadly ovate. Petals 5. Stamens 5, as many as, and opposite to, the petals; anthers dorsifixed. Ovary semi-inferior, 3-5-locular. Ovules 3-5, pendulous. Fruit a drupe, with the calyx remnants at the apex. Worldwide: 12 species in the Old World tropics Zimbabwe: 1 taxon. |
