Description of the genus

Aquatic herb with floating peltate leaves; without submerged dissected leaves. Sepals 3, purplish-brownish-red; petals similar but larger. Stamens 12-18. Carpels 6-18, free. Fruit leathery, 1-2-seeded.

Worldwide: 1 species in tropical America, Africa, India and temperate E Asia

Zimbabwe: 1 taxon.
