Description of the genus
Plants terrestrial or epilithic. Rhizome erect or suberect; rhizome scales rather broad with few hairs. Fronds monomorphic, 2-pinnatifid, pinnae gradually decrescent towards base and apex.
Veins free, veins of the pinna lobes not meeting below the sinus.
Sori round, exindusiate or with a very small indusium. Derivation of name: amaurus: obscure, pelta: shield; alluding to the very small indusium. Worldwide: c. 200 species, neotropical distribution with a few species in Africa and the Madagascan region. Zimbabwe: 2 taxa. |
