Description of the genus

Annual herb. Indumentum simple. Leaves 2-3-pinnatisect. Inflorescence of leaf-opposed racemes. Petals pale yellow. Fruit of 2 transverse segments: the lower ellipsoid, 2-locular, with 2 boat-shaped, 3-veined valves; the upper strongly flattened and sterile. Seeds 3-4 per loculus.

Derivation of name: For Bartholomaeus Carrichter, physician to Emperor Maximilian II

Worldwide: 1 species from Macaronesia to Iran and Europe
