Description of the genus

Trees. Leaves paripinnate; margin entire. Inflorescence a large panicle. Flowers 4-merous, unisexual. Calyx lobed to base. Petals 4, free. Staminal tube short, with paired triangular-acuminate appendages. Ovary 4-locular. Fruit a pendulous, elongated, 4-sided, woody, septifragal capsule. Seeds winged at one end only.

Worldwide: 2 species in tropical Africa

Zimbabwe: 1 taxon.
