Description of the genus

Shrubs or small trees, sometimes spiny. Leaves opposite. Inflorescences of much-forked cymes, alternating from node to node. Flowers bisexual. Calyx 5-fid. Petals slightly fused at base. Stamens 5, alternating with the petals. Ovary sessile with 1-2 ovules. Fruit an almost dry drupe.

Worldwide: 4 species in Africa and Madagascar

Zimbabwe: 2 taxa.
