Notes: Journal of SA Botany, Vol 32, Part 1, January 1966. L.C.Leach and D.C.H.Plowes. This is a detailed discussion of the misinterpretations of H. kirkii and H. hislopii. The specimen I (LW) provided to Mr. Leach was the first recorded in Zimbabwe, but was received too late for inclusion in the above article, which had already gone to press. LW adds: Captain and Mrs Palfrey lived in one of the remotest areas of the country - inaccessible during the rains - on the border with Mozambique. He had been awarded the M.C. during WW1. Mrs Palfrey somehow discovered that I had a weakness for scones with strawberry jam and cream, and whenever I visited (unannounced) they would miraculously appear ! A wonderful old couple.
