Description: |
Densely tufted perennial. Culms 10-70 cm × 1-3 mm, sparsely to densely villous. Leaves: lamina usually convolute-cylindric; upper surface glabrous, lower villous. Inflorescence a lax, slender, erect or curved panicle, composed of 1-3 fascicles of spikes; peduncles slender. Spikelets 2-3 mm. Glumes 2-3 mm, pale to dark reddish-brown, glabrous or sometimes hairy on or near the midrib. Nutlet (utricle-like) 3-4 mm, including a 1.5-2 mm beak; basal hairs 2/3 to nearly as long as nutlet. |
Notes: | This is an unusual-looking Cyperaceae. As well as being confused with Scleria spp, it could be mistaken for a grass or a species of Juncus. |
