Description: |
Perennial herb, growing from a conical to subglobose corm, set 10-20 cm below ground. The plants have virtually no stem above ground. Leaves 2-3, linear with a broadened ovate base, 10-30 cm long but usually withered and broken. Bracks several, ovate, 6-13 cm long, showy, white or purplish-pink striped with 15-50 veins. Inflorescence a congested head of up to 10 flowers, held inside the bracts. Flowers mauve-pink to purplish. |
