Stemless perennial succulent, solitary of suckering to form small groups. Leaves in a dense rosette, spreading, up to 30 cm long, usually withered at the apex, dark- greyish-green and marked with elongated whitish spots above, pale milky green and without spots beneath; margin horny, reddish-brown with sharp deltoid teeth c. 6 mm long. Inflorescences 1-3. erect, 0.75-2 m high; peduncle branched. Racemes capitate, densely-flowered, 3-5 cm long and c. 7 cm wide, often a few flowers more widely spaced at the base. Perianth usually pale pink, sometimes darker pinkish-red, 25-30 mm long, slightly decurved towards the mouth.

Habitat: A species of stony grassland in open patches of light Brachystegia woodland and on rocky outcrops.
