Description:
Perennial herb, up to 40 cm high, growing from a narrowly ovoid bulb, up to 7 cm in diameter. Leaves lanceolate, up to 15 cm long, hairless, green often purplish near base. Inflorescence a lax many-flowered raceme, 3–15 cm long. Pedicels 4–10 mm long, spreading to erect; bracts filiform, 4–8 mm long. Perianth segments oblong, 4–6 mm long, spreading to reflexed, blue. Ovary and filaments often white. Capsule c.5 mm long.
Notes: Although recorded from non-montane habitat in Division C according to Mapaura and Timberlake (2004), this is probably an error.

Habitat: Montane grassland and rocky areas on shallow soils.
