Crinum graminicola sensu Plowes &Drummond in Wild Flowers of Zimbabwe, 1990: plate 24/25
Common names: Candy-striped crinum (English)
Frequency:
Status: Native
Description:
Bulbous perennial. Leaves broad, spreading and flat, up to 100 × 20 cm; margin finely hairy. Flowers in many-flowered umbels (up to 50), flared, white with deep pink ribs. Fruit up to 7 cm in diameter, pinkish-red, not beaked.
Notes: Though other species of Crinum may have the pink stripes on the ribs, they are normally less bright and distinct as in this species. The particularly deep coloured specimen in the first images was long mistakenly thought to belong to Crinum graminicola, based on information in Plowes & Drummond (1990: 26). That species, however is restricted to South Africa and is not found in Zimbabwe.
