Description:
Perennial herb, 15-25 cm tall, growing from corms. Leaf single, terete, 1.5 mm wide, up to 60 cm long but normally absent at flowering time. Stem branched, branches held erect, close to the stem. Flowers pale lilac to violet-blue with orange-yellow spotted nectar guides on the broader outer tepals only. Outer tepals obovate to lanceolate, 19-24 mm long, reflexed. Inner tepals linear-lanceolate, 15-18 mm long, ascending to erect.
Notes: See the similar Moraea thomsonii for comparison.
Derivation of specific name: stricta: very straight, referring to the erect stem and lateral branches.
Habitat: In grassland, vleis and marshy places.
