Description: |
Shrub from 40 - 100 cm. Branchlets and leaves glabrous (in ours, subsp. vittatus). Leaves alternate to subopposite; petiole 1-2 mm long; lamina leathery to rather thick and brittle, dull yellowish-green, 2.5-10 × 1-4 cm, oblong-lanceolate to oblong-obovate or elliptic, with 3-5 strong nerves arising from a little above the base. Flowers clustered in axils. Calyx 3-5 mm long, tubular. Corolla 3-4.5 cm long, with a bulbous basal swelling and a narrow constriction of the tube above, pink with a white (and sometimes green) band over the vents and redder at the tip in bud; lobes erect, linear-oblanceolate. Stamen filaments lacking a tooth in front of the anther. Style slender, isodiametric to slightly winged opposite the filaments. |

Habitat: | Montane and riverine forest, and marginally into miombo woodland and (in Zimbabwe) wooded grassland; on Syzygium and other forest trees; in Zimbabwe, commonly on Diplorhynchus. |
