Description: |
Leafless, parasitic, pendulous shrub, 1-3 mm long. Branches yellowish-green with distinctly flattened and strongly ribbed internodes. Flowers unisexual on different plants; male flowers in 2-3-flowered clusters; female flowers solitary; bracteal cups sessile in both sexes. Berries sessile, 6-7 mm long, tuberculate when young but smooth and orange when mature. |
Notes: | Mostly found on Combretum or legumes but occasionally on other trees. |
Derivation of specific name: | combreticola: Combretum loving although also found on legumes and other tree species. |
Habitat: | In mixed deciduous woodland, miombo woodland and riverine vegetation. |
