Description: |
Erect annual herb or sometimes a short-lived perennial, growing up to 1.5 m tall. Stems wiry, ridged, hairless except for whitish hairs at the slightly swollen nodes. Leaves opposite, sessile, linear-filiform, up to 10 cm long, mostly hairless to sparsely hairy when young, sharply mucronate at the apex. Inflorescences in terminal spikes, bright red, pink, or whitish, up to 4 cm long in flower, elongating up to 20 cm in fruit. |
