Description:
Erect or procumbent branched annual or short-lived perennial herb, up to 90 cm tall. Leaves alternate, sub-opposite or clustered, linear to narrowly lanceolate, 1-7 cm long; margin entire. Flowers whitish, widely spaced in a very open, branched terminal inflorescence. Fruit splitting into 2 mericarps, flattened, round, surrounded by a radiately veined wing.
Notes: There is a variety of this species without wings (see var. exalatum for further details).

Another species of Limeum with winged fruit is Limeum pterocarpum, but this possesses a more congested, pseudo-umbellate inflorescence compared to the lax cymes of L. fenestratum.
Derivation of specific name: fenestratum: from fenestra - a window, referring to the transparent wing of the fruits
Habitat: In dry deciduous woodland and as a weed of cultivation.

Worldwide distribution: Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa as far as KwaZulu-Natal.
