Description:
Annual or sometimes perennial herb. Stems up to 30 cm, mostly prostrate with a long tap root. Leaves alternate, narrowly oblanceolate to elliptic, glaucous with a prominent midrib; margins subentire to irregularly crenate. Flowers in terminal or axillary clusters on the leafy branches, greenish-white. Fruit ovoid, enclosed in the persistent perianth.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: litoralis: of the shore
Habitat: On alluvial sandy soils in dry riverbed, flood plains and around dams.
