Common names:
Frequency: Locally frequent.
Status: Native
Description:
Small perennial herb with many clustered short simple branches up to 3 cm long. Leaves sessile, c. 1 × 2 mm fleshy, green. Stipules many, silvery, ovate to round, c. 2.5 × 2 mm, overlapping and scale-like, hiding the stems and leaves. Flowers terminal, solitary, pink, apricot or white, often hidden by bracts but visible when flowering in humid conditions.
Notes: Flowers are short-lived only opening in the late afternoon.
Derivation of specific name: rhodesica: of Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe).
Habitat: In crevices and shallow soil pockets on bare rocky outcrops.
