Common names:
Status: Native
Erect or suberect, succulent annual or perennial, somewhat woody at the base. Leaves 2-3 cm, subalternate, linear, subcylindric, subtended by whitish stipular hairs. Flowers terminal, solitary or in small heads, bright carmine.
Derivation of specific name:
Habitat: A species of sandy soils in hot and dry deciduous woodland and on the margins of pans.

Worldwide distribution: DRC, Rwanda, Uganda, Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Eswatini and South Africa.
