Common names: | Chandelier plant (English) |
Frequency: | Occasional |
Status: | Introduced |
Description: |
Hairless perennial succulent, reproducing asexually by means of small plantlets borne at the leaf apex. Stem erect, up to 1 m, often with short sterile shoots at the base. Leaves alternate or 3-whorled, spreading, terete, grey-green with darker spots or stipes, 3-9 teeth at the apex. Flowers pendent in a terminal inflorescence, orange-red. |
Notes: | The small group of specimens, shown in images 1,2 and 3, which were growing on a road bank in Brachystegia woodland, are clearly naturalised and represent a first record for the Eastern Division. Although this species, together with many other succulents, was undoubedly planted in the rest camp at Lake Kyle Recreational Park, planta are spreading there in the surrounding rocky areas and have become naturalised (see image 4). This would represent a first record for the Southern division. |
