Common names: Himalayan flowering cherry (English)
Status: Introduced
Deciduous tree. Flowers pink, flowering in autumn. When not in flower, it is easily recognized by its glossy, ringed bark (image1) and the long, dentate stipules (image 2).

Habitat: Most often in riverine vegetation, sometimes in open woodland.

Worldwide distribution: Native to Central Asia. Originally introduced as a garden ornamental for its attractive blossom but now an aggressive invader in many parts of southern Africa.
