Common names: Smooth senna (English)
Frequency: Frequent, mainly in higher rainfall areas
Status: Introduced
Shrub or small tree. Leaves with 3-4 pairs of pinnae with glands between each of the pairs. Pods terete, black.
Derivation of specific name: septem[n]trionalis: northern
Habitat: In woodland, disturbed grassland and at the edges of submontane and riverine forests; sometimes in stream beds.
Altitude range: (metres) 1060 - 1610 m
Flowering time:
Worldwide distribution: Native of Mexico and Central America; now a pantropical weed.
Zimbabwe distribution: W,C,E,S
Growth form(s): Tree, shrub over 2 m.
